What is the Dominican Republic known for?
Apart from famous baseball players like Sammy Sosa and Albert Pujols, the Dominican is famous for its gorgeous sand beaches, fun and festive atmosphere and a wide range of fun activities. Traveler favorites are usually buggies, scuba diving, waterfalls and ziplines. Tourism is a strong driver of the economy and there is excellent customer service.
What is there to do in Punta Cana?
Punta Cana, at the eastern tip of the Dominican, boasts beautiful beaches for lounging, clear waters for snorkeling or festive vibes on party boats for those that want to go soak in waist-deep water at the Natural Pool. Inland, there are a number of parks where you can ride ATVs, buggies, ziplines or refresh in a winding river through the jungle.
What can I do during a cruise stop in the Dominican Republic?
Most cruise ships stop at Taino Bay or Amber Cove in Puerto Plata with smaller ships in La Romana in the south. A Puerto Plata favorite is the Waterfalls of Damajagua paired with ziplines, horseback rides or other fun activities. Beach lovers should head to Sosua for the day. In La Romana, most folks head towards Punta Cana to experience the eco-parks or water lovers head to Isla Saona.
